I am hoping to make an effort to catch up on the blog, but for now, I’ll start with my most recent session. There is so much I could say about the laughter, energy, love, and amazing connection that this family shares, but I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy a glimpse:

Amber & Charlie: I loved watching the two of you interact and love each other and your boys. You guys make a great team and definitely have the making cute kids thing down.

A Snapshot

Google tells me that a snapshot is “A photograph, especially one taken quickly or in a moment of opportunity; A glimpse of something; a portrayal of something at a moment in time.”

The photo of our daughter below is just that: a snapshot. It wasn’t staged. It isn’t a stunning piece of art. And yet I can’t take my eyes off of it. We were playing on a blanket on a family day away in the mountains, and I saw something beautiful. I reached down and grabbed my camera to shoot this frame, and I’m so glad I did. I love it.

I love it because her eyes are dancing.

Because when I hold the photograph in my hands, it is timeless. Something I would find in my grandmother’s own baby album.

Because when I look at it I see everything about the moment, even what isn’t pictured.

The way she was wrapped up and squealing with delight in the autumn breeze.

The way the leaves were dancing in the sunlight above her, for her.

The way the clean mountain air brought refreshment.

The way our hearts were full.

This is what I want to give you. Captured moments in time that you can look back on and say a resounding, “Yes. That was it.” Would you be so brave as to move past the posed shots and invite me in to take snapshots of your life? Of what is now for you and your family? As I sit here holding this photograph that is now one of my favorites of our daughter, I can tell you that you won’t be disappointed.

I cannot get enough of this sweet girl.

I. love.

The way she stretches for 5 minutes when she wakes up.
The way she loves to snuggle.
How her hair sticks straight up, even after bathtime.
Bathtime.
Watching her kick and squirm.
Hearing her coo and share her smile.
Knowing, really knowing, how much the Lord must love His children because of how much we love her. For just being her.
The way she is already reflecting the character traits she was named for.
Her tiny little features.
Her growing range of facial expressions.
The way she has captured our hearts.

And I am her mom? Just wow.

Life has been pretty crazy around here as Andrew and I have been checking off the list of things to do to get ready to meet our baby girl and I have been busy squeezing in sessions before going on maternity leave. My poor blog has been a bit neglected as a result, but I did want to share a few frames from a recent session. This family of four actually welcomed their baby into the world just 6 weeks ago, so I loved having the opportunity to capture the sweetness of this newborn boy along with the energy and excitement of his older brother. I have been looking forward to this session since the fall when Stephanie originally contacted me about doing some spring photos of her growing family, so you can imagine how excited I was when the day of our session finally arrived! I was thrilled to get to capture Stephanie and her 3 year old daughter Ava interacting together (along with some special photos of just Ava) in this exciting season! Last week I had the pleasure of documenting Ben and Nicole’s newborn son Jackson. He was amazingly alert for the entire 2 hours that I was there, so it gave me the chance to really capture his interest in his new world and the way his parents love on him. Ben and Nicole are doing such a great job with Jackson–he is one lucky baby. Enjoy a glimpse into our afternoon:

‘Tis the Season

After a 2+ week cold and sinus infection, I am happy to return to the wonderful world of blogging. As I’m sure is the case with most of you, this season tends to be especially busy. I have been working hard on wrapping up family sessions in time for the holidays and have so many wonderful ones I need to catch you up on! In the mean time, enjoy this glimpse of a recent 1-year old session with sweet Marley. This photo speaks to me of the wonder of the holidays from the eyes of a child:

Anyone who has been around a one-year-old knows they don’t stop. Just moments before and after this frame was captured, Marley was busily making her way up these steps. What I love about this image is that it captures her brief pause to wonder at beauty. And that’s my goal this Christmas. Even if it’s for a brief pause, I desire to marvel in the beauty and life that this holiday celebrates. I hope this inspires you to do the same!

three generations: a glimpse~

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing 3 generations of women who are not only beautiful on the outside, but are beautiful inside as well. Their love for one another was so apparent and natural–I loved it! As a fun side note, when I asked Eve where she got one of the twin’s dress, her reply? She made it. I have so much respect for moms as it is, but to do such a great job with twins AND find time to sew super cute dresses for them each season? I am inspired!
