Life has been pretty crazy around here as Andrew and I have been checking off the list of things to do to get ready to meet our baby girl and I have been busy squeezing in sessions before going on maternity leave. My poor blog has been a bit neglected as a result, but I did want to share a few frames from a recent session. This family of four actually welcomed their baby into the world just 6 weeks ago, so I loved having the opportunity to capture the sweetness of this newborn boy along with the energy and excitement of his older brother. I have been looking forward to this session since the fall when Stephanie originally contacted me about doing some spring photos of her growing family, so you can imagine how excited I was when the day of our session finally arrived! I was thrilled to get to capture Stephanie and her 3 year old daughter Ava interacting together (along with some special photos of just Ava) in this exciting season! We had a wonderful time just playing away underneath a canopy of trees on a gorgeous spring afternoon. Enjoy a glimpse:

Welcome back from the holidays! I hope you all had a wonderful time with family. I have a couple of posts left from the end of ‘09 to catch you up on before moving on to some new and exciting things! You may remember me mentioning designer Stephanie Taylor and her wonderful Etsy shop in the recent blog give-away. I was thrilled to meet up with her and her sweet family on a cold December weekend evening for some Christmas card photos. Despite the freezing weather, we had a great session! McAllister Family: Sneak Peek

November has always been one of my favorite months, but this year it has absolutely won me over by bringing with it such gorgeous weather. After the flooding and constant rain of October, this girl was glad to see sunshine and blue sky! lane family: sneak peek

It is always such a privilege for me when I am asked to step into someone’s home and document their family together, and it is one of the things I love most about my job. Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing the Lane family. Their adult children, who are spread out on opposite sides of the country now, were both in town visiting family, making it the perfect time for a family photo session. Despite the overcast morning, we had a great session that was filled with laughter. The Lanes are definitely a family that enjoys being around each other and having a good time! Before we get to the family photos, though, we had to take some shots of their son and new wife, recently back from their honeymoon! Enjoy a glimpse~

three generations: a glimpse~

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing 3 generations of women who are not only beautiful on the outside, but are beautiful inside as well. Their love for one another was so apparent and natural–I loved it! As a fun side note, when I asked Eve where she got one of the twin’s dress, her reply? She made it. I have so much respect for moms as it is, but to do such a great job with twins AND find time to sew super cute dresses for them each season? I am inspired! sneak peek: hannah

fall definitely rivals spring when it comes to the busy season for me, so i apologize for being a bit behind on blogging. lots has been going on, and i will be catching you up as quickly as i can. in the mean time, enjoy some photos i took of hannah last week. i taught this sweet girl in 6th grade, and it is amazing how much more grown up she looks now as an 8th grader! she is beautiful inside and out and a joy to be around. enjoy!

real life~

one of the things i love most about my profession is that i have the honor of giving families photos that capture them. as i sort through the pictures after a session, the photos that i find myself coming back to are not necessarily the “cleanest” ones–there may be a strand of hair that has fallen across a little girl’s face or a streak of dirt on a child’s hands. many times it is the in between or imperfect moments that bring out the most feeling and expression. my goal for each and every photo session is to capture, whether through setting or emotion (or both!), the essence of you. before booking me, my clients have read about my philosophy, perused through my pictures, and are ready and willing to give me the freedom to document their family in action. and i love it! this particular session was no different. emily wanted to be sure that i captured her son in his element doing what he loved most: playing soccer. per her instructions, i only took candid photos, allowing me to step back and capture his determination and love for the game. it’s monday and the to-do list is looming, but i will leave you with two of my favorite frames:

the zgonc family~

let me preface this post by saying that i remember hanging up the phone after talking to melissa during the planning stages of her session, looking over at andrew with a huge smile, and saying “this is going to be amazing!” the zgonc family lives on property that has been in melissa’s family for years. to put that statement into perspective for you, her 92 year old grandfather told me during the session that he has lived there for 60 years! i think it is so beautiful that the very spot where she grew up is where her 2 daughters are making their memories as well. enjoy a gimpse~

before we took family photos, melissa wanted to be sure i captured a few frames of her grandfather. i love these of him in his favorite spot in his work room.

introducing landon: 4 weeks~

i vividly remember the moment when we found out that our friends allen and mandi were expecting because i teared up thinking about what amazing parents they were going to be. their love for each other and their commitment to the Lord is undeniable, and andrew and i both are so thrilled for them as they enter this new stage of life as parents. it was a huge treat to meet landon and to document the beginning of his life. enjoy a glimpse~

i loved that landon was awake when i arrived as it gave me a chance to catch these fun expressions!

i love that landon is totally chillin’ out in this shot. and notice the sweet initials hanging over landon’s crib. mandi made them, and i thought they turned out so well–love the creativity!
